Forbidden Fruit Revisited

This may set the theologian's hearts into a spin.  This may even give the fundamentalists a tremor in their pants but it has to be said.  Maybe the good book was intended to be different if dear little Eve wasn't so impatient?

I pre-empt, as a gay guy knowing that guys to guys understand our bodies, more so than woman do.  We know what the pieces do and how far they can be stretched so to speak.  It is the same for women! My lesbian friends say that it is their knowing each others bodies that make it tick or do the trick.
So having said that, could that be why God got a little tetchy when Eve jumped the gun or got a tad excited over Adam’s Guns?  After all he was created in God’s image, and that, apparently is perfect.  I am having visions of trying to hold myself back from Michelangelo’s David or Adonis.  I am pretty sure if he said hands off while I rest, I would be having troubles with the apple and my serpent as well, so Eve must be forgiven for her indiscretions.
Ok, God told them not to touch the tree of knowledge. Maybe, just maybe, God wasn't finished creating quite yet, and needed a little nanny nap to figure out reproductive organs etcetera. Maybe, just maybe, he told these two to wait until the jobs were finished.  Maybe, he was contemplating another Adam to fit in with Adam and another Eve to compliment Eve.  Just maybe, being gay was the way it was to be, and because Eve jumped Adam and got her leaf off, we have suffered since.
Maybe, just maybe, we were set for a life of gay abandon till she stewed her apple! And, that is why God said, that in punishment, Adam was to make and collect food and Eve was to bear children with pain.
God, if she had not interrupted the plan, the straights may be seeking equal rights today and not us.
But seriously, both are great stories! However, no one is totally satisfied.  Both stories have merit but by all accounts God told them to hold back.  Not once did he say go for it while I sleep.  Maybe, just maybe, he only wanted to people on Earth that never gave him grand-kids. Maybe, he wanted to see them grow only as friends and not experience the problems of divorce, of sexuality, of raring kids, of growing old, and still needing to bonk.  Maybe, just maybe, he wanted his world to be two friends knowing true friendship and sharing life in general. God knows.
Maybe God had no intention to have either of them looking over their shoulder to see who or what was judging them. After all, you can’t be persecuted for being just you and there is no one to judge but God himself!
I know if I was God, (a bit late now after going off about blowing my cherry over David and Adonis) no matter who I put on earth in my image, I would want for them to be free to be who they are.  Free, as long as they do not physically or mentally hurt anyone. And, never having to prove themselves to anyone but their God.  I know that I would want them to love genuinely and deeply.  I would want for them to know friendship, to know compassion, to know true acceptance and caring, and to give till the only pain was that of giving.
This is how I would want my creation story to be passed down through the generations.  I would want for my religious interpreters, and leaders, to read my gospels filled with love, sharing and compassion.
These are my thoughts .

Cheers until next time

Don't Touch my Bike Seat! #share #payitforward #love

Quite often we complain our heads off, that our loved ones don't take any notice of us, or, don't show interest in what we do.  When they do, we must learn to be gracious and thankful that they do.

For instance the other day I wrote my piece on 'Roses are Red'  not thinking for a moment that he, my partner, would read, let alone comment on, my reflections.  He showed a positive reaction that only was fit for a queen and the subtleties were beyond imagination.

It all started with his caring and concern for my needs while hunched over my iPad writing. The coffee, and the hot chocolate just appeared beside me, as if we had imported a top waiter from one of the finest dining establishments in Europe. The canapĂ©s appeared as fast as they came out of the oven.  His positive vibes were encouraging and up lifting.  My best friend phoned a few times to inquire of my day, and I began to smell a rat as to why she kept the inquiry up!  Why she quizzically hinted how great it is that partners were so thoughtful!  And was mine?  As I am sooooo non conspiratorial, I just agreed and kept on agreeing that owing to the latest developments I was indeed blessed.
news.com.au

Late in the afternoon we went on our usual sojourn to the shops and suddenly my suspicions which others possess (usually not I, he he) surfaced.  Each time my 'just in case' items appeared in the trolley, they stayed!  No Houdini fairy acts today I thought.  We approached the checkout and there I was thinking I was home clear when, he suddenly needed a tinkle, leaving me to pick up the tab. Leaving the supermarket and spying some nice fashion statements, I ask him of his lotto ticket obsession, considering he had already just pulled one of my favourite tricks just before.  But no, he said, 'No need for lotto today, I purchased on line.'  Something I had never experienced before. But ok, I thought and we pushed the trolley to the car with the 'just in case', the regular, and his bargain items. This was fast becoming a strange turn of events.

We arrived home, trundled the purchases into the house and suddenly he said, 'Going for a ride, you care to join?'.  I said not at the moment but would catch him up in a while after I packed his 10 packs of bargain 'kleenex' in an appropriate space along with my 'just in cases'.  I then raced to the bedroom to deck myself out in the new sports clothes I had bought a few days earlier while he was having his trickle.  Thought how fab I looked and proceeded to the garage to my bike to meet him at our rendezvous point.

Right then and there the penny dropped -  my best friend's quiz, his over concern, his trickle at the checkout, buying the lotto on line.  Those pennies dropped, like a coin vending machine before my very eyes, when I looked at my bike with the seat missing completely.  The language of compassion flowed through my mind and out of my lips that I am sure he would hear even though he be deaf and kilometres from home.

When he arrived home his care was astounding as to why I had not joined him.  I just said to him that my seat had fallen off my bike and I must have misplaced it last time I rode.  His little look of the executioner appeared and he said that, I still should have joined him, as my new clothes and myself would have fitted snugly on the bike! Then he uttered his final word of, 'touchĂ©'.

Ok we settled the problem discretely. The bike seat was re-attached and all was forgiven so we moved on.

The moral to the story is, with those around us we should be true, non secretive and open to each other. Only then can we really know the depth of love. Only then can they be open and loving to us. Above all, that love should accept, appreciate, share, and forgive each other for both our flaws and our potential.

Ok, now that I have established the seed of forgiveness with him, and have assured him, I will not send him to trickle or, encourage his lotto penchant, he has given me a great idea that is much more discreet. I have his credit card in hand, and I'm off to the computer to browse some online fashion stores :)

Until next time, keep safe!

Cheers!

I Honestly Love You! #love #samesexlove #relationships

You know we see these texts from time to time and they make us feel all gooey and romantic inside. We read them and feel that love is alive and well.

Two people madly in love with each other that they can't wait to be back in each others arms.  I have read, that some miss their partner so much. that they can't  even sleep in the bed while their loved one is away.  They want to spend that forever with their partner and, being without them for even the shortest of times, can be their loneliest. Also, some who lose their partner through death, go through months, and sometimes their life, not sleeping in the bed they shared.  Extreme maybe, but all of us cope with grief and separation in different ways.  But we mourne our loss, our separations the best way we can.

Love is very powerful. Yes we all vow the eternal, forever, kind of love.  But in the present, we need our partner, our source of strength with us.  Not many of us can deny the tears we shed at airports when someone close is leaving us.

Love is an extreme gift.  No one can quantify it, fully describe it, but nearly all find it.  When we do there are no barriers for our love.  The bond and the individualised feeling, are shared by two. Yes sometimes, there can be complications for the love we share. But those barriers are not from within our hearts. Those barriers are from those that maybe, do not understand the depths that love brings.

Maybe, those people have not felt a love, that has no barriers.  Maybe, those people need a book of guide lines as to how to love.  Maybe, those people believe that each person's love is the same as the next and copied.  Maybe, those people have that book at hand and can wipe their loss, their separation their anxiety to cope, because after all to them, love is something taught, and is not, something that comes from within.

Yes, I believe that love is as individual as the morning sun.  It filters in different ways and each of us see that sun from different angles, from different perspectives.  But, sure as the sun rises, we all feel that glow, but each and everyone of us will describe it in a different way.  Yes, we may say it as it has been written before, but we feel, we experience, we need that warmth.

That warmth is felt by everyone on this planet and unless we block that warmth, and that glow, we of all nations, religion, colour and sexuality can and should have the right to experience the warmth the individualised pleasure that warms our hearts and our souls.

Feelings and love are not things that can be learned.  They come from within.  We can take advice and solace in how others have felt from the past by books of wisdom but this love, this sun is internal and only we know how that it affects us.

The text message at the beginning was from two guys who have been parted for whatever reason. But that love, that feeling of love can not, and should not, be seen as exclusive for people of the opposite sex.  Each love is as different as we feel the sun rising.

Don't let the rose die on the vine because of what has been written in the past.  Create your future.  To say I honestly love you is your feeling, your life blood.  Don't let gender, race, or colour, slant yours or anyone elses true love.

As the song goes, 'I'm a man like any other man, Unlike any other man.'

Cheers!

Gay Male or Mere Male???? #gay #domesticgoddess #helpinghand

Today I am asking, 'Are some of the ridiculously dumb things we do inherent because we are gay,  because we are male, or are they not particularly gender related and just plain silly?'

In the advent of friends and relations dropping in this week due to a family gathering for a celebration of a life well lived, my dear partner decided to get out of the kitchen for a while.  And, assume my position as vacuum maid.

He was doing really well for someone without the experience I possess.  Despite the subtle hints of 'Did you move the couch?'  'Did you dust before you did the floor?'  'Don't bump our treasures on the stairs!'  He had seemed to have acquired my skills simply through observation, and I was impressed!  Especially impressed that he did not back chat me with my questions.  Having seen his mastering of such a riveting and very prestigious position in the House of Lords, I was contemplating upping his rank to Domestic Welfare Minister.

This all took a very sour turn for the worse!  Again, I was so impressed that he passed me with the dust canister to dispose of the sins of a few days grime to the refuse. That he cleaned the filter - I had not even known he had observed that skill ever!   This is when I walked to the garden to see my beloved, hosing the life out of my trusted steed named Hoover.  Before I could say 'What the?' he had immersed motor and all in a bucket, and was cleaning madly to make it look brand spanking new. You see, I have learned that yelling is of no consequence to a deaf man, and worse, when he removes his cochlear when playing in water.  However he has learned the facial expressions of the Ice Queen, and immediately looked me in the eye for a compliment of how great of a job he had done.  He knows that if he plays the innocent hand, he may win the trick.

So after a few 'How could you?  'Why did you?'  'Whenever did you see me do?' You figure as you throw trusted hoover in the bin, and you explain the consequences of water and electricity, that sometimes explanations and  job descriptions should be initiated before you hand the reins over.

Are these things avoidable?  Are they a gay thing?  Are they merely a male thing where we assume we know everything?

In my venting to my best friend of today's occurrences, she reminded me of my romantic night where I lit candles too close to an electrical cable.  She reminded me of the time when a cyclone was approaching with huge force. She had said, 'Immerse some of your outside stuff that could take flight into the pool.'  I did of course, do what she had advised! But did she explain to me what stuff?  No!!!! She assumed I knew what went in and what did not! Not once did she believe I would submerge the BBQ and my potted plants.  Of which, the BBQ and the plants died a death owing to it being a salt water pool.  Rust and a salt bath do not bring joy to foliage nor wrought iron, nor I may add to my pool man's face when he rocks up on his weekly visit to clean the pool.

No, I don't believe it is just a gay or male thing.  Come on fess up!  We all do silly things from time to time.  It is not a male nor gay thing.  It is not a female thing.  It is not a thing of children.

It is that, we often take others for granted, that they have followed our lead.  It is that, often we don't ask the experienced of what to do next.  It is often that children do what their parents have done in the past and not realized the times, nor the situation, that they were in at the time. For example the child grows up, sets up house, invites the parents over for dinner.  The mother sees the child prepare the lamb roast.  Having watched the mother for years the new adult cuts the hock from the lamb throws it out to the dog.  The mother onlooking, says to the child, 'Why did you cut off the hock and throw to the dog? It is the best meat.'  The child turns to the mother and says, 'I have watched you do that all my life, so I did what you did.'  The mother replied. 'I only did that because my baking dish was to small to fit it all in!'

This is where, none of us, do silly things because of a gender nor age.  We simply do it, because we lack the knowledge.  We don't ask questions.  We assume too much.  We don't open ourselves, to show others, that we need support.  We don't take time to explain fully to others that are learning.  Put simply, we need to communicate!

Therefore we all must learn to communicate, offer help, accept constructive advice, and return it with a thank-you, you saved my life.

Now we are off to the electrical store to purchase a water-proof vacuum cleaner.

Cheers!

Media Assassins #ridicule #bullying #damage

Driving home this afternoon I was listening to, and usually enjoy a program hosted by 3 of my favourite broadcasters. That was until this afternoon! The trio are witty, amusing, entertaining  and have a great following and therein lies the reason for my writings and my decision not to follow again.

The topic for discussion this afternoon was 'Would you take your father out on the town?' Ageist? Yes, but this was balanced by the feedback that was phoned in.  So, I will let that ride for now. However, the preamble that took place prior to the talkback, was of enough for me to pull my car to the curb and listen as to just how far these guys would go. Or in fact, would they remedy the comments they made.

The preamble was about a celebrity father who was spotted in a Mexican themed night club.  The guy was recently reported in the tabloids as having undergone chondrolaryngoplasty or in laymen terms, a 'tracheal shave'.  Some of us may feel a little shy being seen out with a father of this age.  Though, I might add, if my Dad was to join me, I would feel rather privileged that he wanted to hang out with me. But no, the trio not only stuck it to him for his age and being spotted giving support to his son, but they stuck it to him and repeatedly referred to him as, 'He makes a very handsome woman!' Therein begins my anger!

In a world, where the great Bob Dylan wrote 'Times they are a-changin!' I had thought that presenters of such programs would have enough empathy, enough compassion, and enough spirit of good will, for people who are fighting for their right to be recognized as equal in this world.

Who are these people who feel they have the right to make their fun at somebody else's expense. I would have thought radio stations would have learned their lesson with the Kate and William debacle! But no, the vulnerable are fair game for ridicule and sniggering, so long as the program rolls on and the ratings soar. Recently, quite rightly, there was a huge outpouring of anger and grief when the media lost one of their own due to online bullying and abuse. What is the difference between on-air public ridicule and online ridicule? I can hear you say that the online conversation was vitriolic abuse but, on-air ridicule is as every bit as damaging. As such, it is time this talk show ridicule was dumped along with those who peddle it.

I feel that as part of  the LGBTI community we continue to pave the way for recognition, acceptance and equal rights. We have emerged as human beings who have as much to offer as any other person on this earth.  We have strived to be recognized for our excellence in our work, our homes and our community.  None of us have walked in the other person's shoes, so how dare we publicly ridicule, and humiliate for the sake of ratings.  If in fact, this guy is undergoing a sex reassignment, let us support him, let us give him strength to face his decisions. Let us support his family that he feels comfortable to be seen with, at Mexican themed bars.

In this world that is ever changing let us not make a mockery of someone who is just trying to be themselves.  Let's stand alongside them show them love, caring and compassion.

Did the trio redeem themselves? No. sadly they did not. So, I am left to assume that they think their behaviour is perfectly fine, that it is ok to publicly ridicule and humiliate someone. Well, they can have their program, but I for one will no longer listen.

"For the wheel's still in spin,
                                                   And there's no tellin who,
That it's namin' for the loser now,
                                                   Will be later to win,
For the times they are a-changin!"

Till Hell Freezes Over! #lgbti, #gayboys #gayfun

Every now and again, we all wake on the wrong side of the bed (not for the reasons you are thinking) and a little grumpy. (Not me of course!  Coz - I may have emitted in previous writings that I am perfect, he he.)  Yes, we all have emotions that come and go and, sometimes it is best to be left alone for a while, while you get over it.  However, I feel it is better to slap up the 'do not disturb' sign to give yourself time to sort through it, rather than not telling those around you, you want 'me' time.  Not everyone is a mind reader! (Again, one of my forte's best not mentioned is that I may have a bent for reading too much into it.) But let's talk about someone else for a while.  Let's talk about those who aren't as gifted as moi.

Having established that you want to be alone for a while, allows others to get their thought processes in swing.  It allows them to know that it will pass. It is just a process you need to go through at your own pace.  It allows them, if they are spirited thinkers, to develop strategies as to why you got into that space in the first place. If they realize they were the catapult for your 'me' time, they can get their excuses and defense ready, before you fire the first shot as to why they got you there in the first place.

If you are not following me at the moment, this is how my partner and I were this morning. Simply by communicating our feelings we could have avoided an afternoon of our game of 'guilt ball'.  For those who don't know, 'guilt ball' is a game where the Ice Princess defends her castle from any intrusion. Prince Grumpy may have avoided this game, if only he had erected the 'do not disturb' sign before he tried to enter her realm.  Sort of like a game of ice hockey but (after his quiet treatment without explanation) his puck would be battled and never enter the goal posts until he developed a better game plan.

Therefore, for those who do not  want a game of 'guilt ball'  communicate your feelings to those you love. Get your game plan into action.  Advise the other team of your delay of game, don't risk a face-off, don't risk the penalty of game misconduct.  If your plan is not to communicate your game plan, then place your jock firmly in place. Know that your biscuit may never enter the breezers and you may face a penalty that is butt ending, forfeiting your game for a very long cold season.

Life is a game we all play, despite my attempt to block  the other players goal, we all must play a part in the game.  A game of ice solitaire can be a rather useless, time wasting sport.  In my way of thinking a team of either two or more can give you more satisfaction if the game is played with great sportsman etiquette and  camaraderie.

Not for one minute am I saying that communication solves all problems quickly.  It can be a very long game.  But until it is solved a little frost bite doesn't hurt anyone, as long as when the game is played you unite as one in the club room and supply some warming cream and a tip or two for the next game.

Cheers

A Loving nation!

Tonight, I was watching Ricki Martin talk openly about his sexuality and his coming out - the freedom it has given him and peace with who he is. This honesty with our family and friends is still a struggle for some of us as we try to find a way to let those we know and love that we are gay. Funny thing is, a lot of them are aware of this long before we are. I feel sad that there is still this hesitation to publicly acknowledge our sexuality. I actually long for the day when it is no longer an issue - that we are simply people! That we are truly treated equally in every way.

However, when we are fretting about whether or not we are judged on our sexuality, walk in the shoes of someone who is not only gay but has a disability as well. This most amazing man in my life is hearing impaired if we want to be politically correct, or, as he says 'I'm deaf!' He never complains of his lot and with the innocence of a child he sees only good. He brings out the protector in me but he is the most self sufficient, diligent, generous person I know. He has worked his entire adult life, but has battled against the odds to gain employment. He has done this without government help or support. Recently, after leaving his job to relocate, he insisted that we put his disability on his Resume even though it is against the law to discriminate against somebody on such grounds. Why did he do this? Because he said when people find out he is deaf, they will not employ him. He is so honest that he would rather tell them straight up. It does not stop the discrimination, it simply short circuits the recruitment process. They simply do not even bother acknowledging his application.
It is their loss however, as this man is amazing at his job. You will not get a more conscientious, hard working. or talented worker than he! He brings amazing value to any business that he works for. However, discrimination  is alive and well in this country and I am sure that many employers equate hearing impaired with stupid. Forgive me for my passion on this subject , but with glowing references, amazing talent, and the work ethic of a workaholic there is no reason that this man is not employed except for the fact he has a disability. To the employers out there smug in the ivory towers, I hope you get the quality of workers you deserve!

Sour grapes, I hear you say! I do not think so! His predicament has really brought discrimination into focus for me. At a time when the Government is doing everything possible to get the entire population into the workforce, the reality may differ greatly to the dream. There is discrimination across the entire spectrum of the population. Women are discriminated against as they may have a baby; the LGBTI Community is discriminated against because people feel threatened by us or something; the disabled are discriminated against because of their disability; older people are discriminated against as they may not be as agile; and others are discriminated against on the basis of race. The list goes on and on! While such bigotry exists how does anyone who is not Caucasian male between the age of 25 and 45 get a job. The talent in the pool of 'others' is amazing. All that is required is for the smug few who have been drinking their own bathwater for too long, to find their reality gene, and realize that all of these groups have so much to give.

At a time when we are told to embrace and celebrate the diversity of Australian Society, I think we still have a long way to go. We are told our tough budget is for the good of the country and the direction in which, we as a country have to move. However, equally as important are the humanitarian issues that actually will not cost a cent. They will actually save money and some may even help to swell the empty coffers we are always hearing about. Let us stop the blatant discrimination against the LGBTI community and allow them to marry. The sun will still rise and the world will continue to revolve on its axis. Let us have real debate about euthanasia! I for one do not want to end my days with the indignity of dementia, incontinence and human frailty! We cannot afford to keep these human shells that actually died when their memories faded and the madness of dementia crept in. I am sure if we asked them when they were competent they would agree there is no quality of life in soiled nappies and bed sores.  Let us look after our mentally ill, who at this point make up a huge chunk of our prison populations and homeless. Let us make sure that our disabled are treated equally on a level playing field. We insist on ramps being installed, toileting facilities be available, access to parking and public places and yet we deny them employment.

Sometimes, I am ashamed to be Australian. While we have a lot to be thankful for, there are many gaps in the fabric of our society though which each and every one of us fall. Next time you judge the homeless man begging on the street, wonder what brought him from his home and warm bed to such circumstances. When you deny the disabled their place in society, you will do well to remember - There but for the Grace of God go I! It happens in the wink of an eye - a life irrevocably changed forever! Fear not the gay boy you scorn and yell abuse at on the street or the football field! He will not hurt you and he sure as hell will not hit on you!

This little rant only scratches the surface of discrimination that the politically correct attempt to eliminate! It just goes to show you that no amount of legislation can change attitudes! That my friends comes from within!

Yours in our Loving Country
